A Poem

I feel a poem coming on!  Here is one Natalie read to me the other day.  She heard it from her friend Sue-Ella and Sue-Ella heard it from a book. A man called Michael Rosen made it up.   Ready?  here it is:

Alligator Problem

If an excavator excavates
A motivator motivates

An activator activates
A rotivator rotivates

A cultivator cultivates

And an operator operates

What does an alligator do?

I’m Back!

Hi Everyone!

Sorry I haven’t been around much lately.  I’m going to school now so I’ve been really busy.  I had to write and tell you about a great book our teacher has been reading to us.  It’s called Bringing The Rain To Kapiti Plain by Verna Aardema.  It’s about  a boy in Africa, minding his cows and wishing it would rain.  When it doesn’t he does something about it.  Next time you are in the library ask for it.  I’ve heard it so often i know some of it off by heart. Like this bit:

“These are the cows

all hungry and dry

Who mooed for the rain to fall from the sky

To green up the grass

All brown and dead

That needed the rain from the cloud overhead-

At The Zoo

This is a poem by William Makepeace Thackery.  Do you like it?  I do!

At The Zoo

First I saw the white bear, then I saw the black;
Then I saw the camel with a hump upon his back;
Then I saw the grey wolf, with mutton in his maw;
Then I saw the wombat waddle in the straw;
Then I saw the elephant a-waving of his trunk;
Then I saw the monkeys-mercy, how unpleasantly they-smelt!

Meanies!

Hi Everyone!  Just thought i should tell you about the book I’m reading.  It’s a picture book called Arthur and the Meanies by Jan Fearnley and it’s really cool.  It’s all about a lovely elephant and a gang of animals who are mean to him.  If I met that gang I’d tell them that they are REALLY stupid.  Bullies are stupid, my Mom says.  If anyone is mean to you tell an adult!  Tell your parents or your teacher or your big sister if you have one.  Anyway, the elephant has a lot of trouble with the Meanies but he also has two really good friends who stick up for him. If anyone was mean to my friend Violet Anne I would tell them a thing or two!  I hope you get to see this book because it is REALLY cool.

Scoil Mhuire

Big hello to the children and teachers at Scoil Mhuire, Moycullen, Galway. Patricia Forde was there  reading about ME in her book Frogs Do Not Like Dragons. She said she had a wonderful time and that the school is full of brilliant readers and writers. Hurray for all of them!

Mother Doesn’t Want A Dog

Mother Doesn’t Want a Dog by Judith Viorst

Mother doesn’t want a dog.

Mother says they smell,

And never sit when you say sit,

Or even when you yell.

And when you come home late at night

And there is ice and snow,

You have to go back out because

The dumb dog has to go.

Mother doesn’t want a dog.

Mother says they shed,

And always let the strangers in

And bark at friends instead,

And do disgraceful things on rugs,

And track mud on the floor,

And flop upon your bed at night

And snore their doggy snore.

Mother doesn’t want a dog.

She’s making a mistake.

Because, more than a dog,

I think

She will not want this snake.
